Cosmetics Clinic at Vale Healthcare: Breast augmentation and Breast enhancement
Breast augmentation and Breast enhancement
Breast enhancement or breast augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery chosen by women who feel their natural breasts are too small, or those whose breasts have decreased in size following childbirth and/or breastfeeding. Breast augmentation is also performed following mastectomies.
Breast enhancement usually involves inserting a silicone implant into your breasts, and therefore increasing your breast size. During your consultation, you will be able to discuss your options, and make an informed decision about what is the right size for you.
Breast augmentation and Breast enhancement: the procedure
A breast enhancement operation involves making a cut, about 5cm long, in the fold between the breast and the chest wall. An implant is placed behind the breast tissue in a ‘pocket’ which is made for the specific shape and cleavage you desire.
This surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic, and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital after the operation.
Every chest wall is a different shape, and the amounts of breast tissue in each breast varies, which means we are unable to guarantee your exact cup size.
Similarly while we will try to ensure that the breasts are symmetrical and as equal in size as possible, there may not be an exact match after surgery.
