Cosmetics Clinic at Vale Healthcare: Breast Lift

Cosmetic Surgery - Breast Lift and breast augmentation at Vale Healthcare's Cosmetics ClinicBreast Lift

Breast lift / breast uplift surgery is also known as ‘mastopexy’, and is the name given to the procedure which lifts and firms the breasts. It does not however increase the size of the breasts. if you are interested in breast enlargement then please view our breast augmentation section.

Breast lift treatments are usually chosen by women who feel that their breasts have suffered the inevitable effects of gravity and ageing, or by women who have breastfed children or lost a lot of weight, and feel that their breasts are no longer as firm as they used to be.

Breast lift operations can be performed at any age, but it is necessary to wait until the bresat is fully developed.

A breast lift can be performed as a stand alone procedure or at the same time as breast augmentation or reduction. In this instance, the breasts will become both firmer and larger.

Breast Lift: the procedure

The procedure involves removing the excess skin from your breast by making a cut around each nipple, and sometimes a T-shaped cut under your breast. The procedure may take up to three hours to complete, and you will be in hospital for one or two nights after surgery.

Following the operation, there will be small tubes (drains) coming out from each breast when you wake up. These are to collect any blood, but sometimes blood may collect underneath the skin and breast tissue. In this case, you may require a second operation to remove the blood clot. Despite taking careful measurements of the breasts and the new nipple position before your operation, and checking the shape and dimensions at the end of the operation, it is not possible to guarantee that your breasts will end up perfectly symmetrical.

Following the operation there will be some bruising and swelling but this will ease and can be helped by taking prescribed painkillers to control any discomfort.

A breast lift is not a permanent procedure so the surgery may need to be repeated at a later date.
