Rapid access chest pain clinic (RACPC)
This is a specialist service for early assessment of patients with chest pain and possible symptoms of angina.
Your GP can refer you to the next available clinic. Clinics are held every day Monday to Friday
On arrival at the clinic you will be asked to tell the specialist Consultant what symptoms have brought you to the clinic and then you will undergo some tests, such as ECG, Echo cardiogram or an exercise ECG These tests are painless and a further explanation of what is involved can be found in the cardiology services.
Reasons for referral to the cardiology clinic RACPC
- If you have chest pain on exertion (new within the last 3 months) the cause of which is suspected to be an insufficient blood flow to a part of the heart muscle (known as ischaemia). Referral is appropriate if you are free of chest pain at rest and have no evidence of acute heart disease.
- If you are known to have heart problems caused by an inadequate flow of blood through the arteries of the heart and whose symptoms have worsened.
