Mr Mike Foster is a General Surgeon who runs private clinics from the Vale Hospital, near Cardiff - South Wales premier private hospital.

Alongside his prectice as a private general surgery consultant at Vale Healthcare, Mr Foster's NHS practice is based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, south Wales.

Mr Foster has a specialist expertise in Colorectal Surgery and Paediatric Surgery.

Professor P.N. Haray is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon based at Prince Charles Hospital, in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, where he has established a comprehensive colorectal service. He brings years of experience to his private colorectal consultant practice at Vale Healthcare, south Wales' leading private hospital and private clinics in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Professor Haray is also an External Professor of Coloproctology, at the School of Care Sciences in the University of Glamorgan, Pontypridd since 2000.

Before locating in South Wales, Professor Haray completed his medical education and achieved a Master’s in Surgery in Bombay, India prior to coming to the UK in 1991. He then completed Higher Training in Surgery through various hospitals in Wales, specialising in Colorectal, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery. He also undertook a visiting fellowship with the colorectal unit at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA prior to his appointment as a Consultant Surgeon in 1996

His particular areas of expertise include:

  • Laparoscopic (key-hole) colorectal surgery, and is the most experienced laparoscopic colorectal surgeon in Wales providing this technique in over 90% of bowel operations.
  • Early diagnosis and surgical treatment of bowel cancer. 
  • A specialist approach to all colorectal diseases including benign conditions such as diverticular disease, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis etc.
  • Functional bowel disorders like Faecal Incontinence, Obstructed Defecation/ Rectocoele, Rectal Prolapse, Irritable Bowel Syndrome etc.
  • Day Case/Outpatient treatment for a variety of conditions including early haemorrhoids.
  • Endoscopic procedures.

Haray has also won several awards including the Winner of the Best Hospital Doctor (Surgery) in the UK, and Best Surgical Trainer in Wales etc. 

He has an active interest in surgical research and teaching with over a hundred publications/ presentations and is a regular invited speaker at local and international conferences. Over the past 2 years, he has been actively training established consultant colorectal surgeons in various hospitals across Wales in the techniques of laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Mr Dean Harris

Mr Dean Harris is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Vale Healthcare. Mr Harris's NHS work is based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, and he is also an honorary lecturer.

Dean offers a full range of colorectal and general surgery procedures including laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery and colonoscopy. His interests are in proctology (fistulae, haemorrhoids), pelvic floor disorders (including internal and external rectal prolapse) and management of incontinence.

Dean qualified from UWCM (Cardiff) in 1997 and has obtained a broad training in general surgery and coloproctology as a specialist registrar in Wales. Much of his colorectal training has been in Singleton Hospital, both as a registrar in 2007 and as an Ethicon Endosurgery Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellow in 2010.

Dean was a colorectal fellow at St Mark’s Hospital in London and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada where he received advanced colorectal training. He has developed special interests in pelvic exenteration for advanced pelvic malignancy, ileoanal pouch formation for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Dean undertook a full time MD in Cardiff studying the biology of peritoneal inflammation and adhesions. He has active research interests in the management of locally advanced rectal cancer through Swansea University.

 


Mr Umesh Khot

Mr Khot is a Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in Colorectal Surgery. Mr Khot is based in Swansea, and lives in Cardiff, and offers private clinics through Vale Healthcare across south Wales. Mr Khot practices all aspects of general surgery and has a special interest in surgery for intestinal disorders, both cancer and non-cancer. He is also an accredited colonoscopist.

Mr Umesh Khot trained in Bombay, India. Qualifying in 1989, he started postgraduate surgical training followed by three years as Lecturer in Surgery, University of Bombay. In the UK, he continued higher surgical training in London and Wales. He was awarded the Intercollegiate Fellowship in 2005. In 2006 he was awarded a Fellowship in Laparoscopic(Key-hole) Colorectal Surgery.

Mr Khot is a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. He is a UK National Trainer/Preceptor for laparoscopic intestinal surgery and represents Wales on the Council of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI).

Mr Khot also runs a national fellowship programme sponsored by Ethicon Endosurgery. He has trained many Consultants and senior surgical trainees in the art of laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He established laparoscopic colorectal services and Enhanced Recovery Programme in Swansea.

He has published many scientific papers and is a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and has a keen interest in clinical research.
 


Mr Alan Woodward

Alan Woodward is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, privately based at Vale Healthcare in south Wales. Alan has been a consultant general surgeon for 13 years and is based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant. His undergraduate training was at the Welsh National School of Medicine and his postgraduate training was undertaken in Wales, Liverpool and the United States. It was in the United States where he worked on his thesis on gastrointestinal motility for the degree of Master of Surgery. His private general surgery practice is based at Vale Healthcare South Wales' leading private clinic and private hospital for general surgery including hernia, colorectal disease, gallbladder disease and haemorrhoid surgery int the state-of-the-art Vale Hospital near Cardiff.

General Surgery

Alan's general surgical practice is primarily in the areas of hernia surgery, colorectal disease and surgery for gallbladder disease and acid reflux. He was the first surgeon in Wales to undertake stapled haemorrhoidectomy, a less painful way of treating haemorrhoids surgically. In addition, he has taught the technique to many consultants both in Wales and in the South of England.
 
Hernia Surgery

Alan has one of the largest published series of hernia repairs under local anaesthesia and has particular expertise in this area. He has developed a local anaesthetic mixture which enables medically unfit patients to undergo hernia repair safely. He is one of only a few surgeons who also has extensive experience of laparoscopic repair of groin hernias, incisional hernias and treatment of sportsman's groin.

In addition to the above laparoscopic procedures Alan routinely undertakes laparoscopic cholecystectomy using 3 small wounds rather than the traditional 4 wound technique.

Teaching and Training

Alan is an Honarary Undergaduate Lecturer for surgery in the Cardiff University Medical School and has a particular interest in developing work experience for prospective medical students. He is committed to training postgraduate surgical trainees and has been presented with the Best Trainer of the Year award by the surgical training committee.
He is also Clinical Director of surgery,orthopaedics and urology at Cwm Taf NHS Trust and has managerial responsiblities at both the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital.
Born in Liverpool, he remains a keen supporter and follower of Liverpool Football Club and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
