Digital X-Ray Imaging
Plain film radiography is carried out at Vale Healthcare either to supplement MRI referrals and their subsequent diagnostic report, or in reaction to a request from appropriate clinicians.
Traditionally, x-rays were produced on photographic film, with the finished visible pictures involving dark rooms, chemicals and processing. Modern machines are digital, and the pictures are recorded by a digital detector.
We use computed radiography ensuring remarkable clarity in images, coupled with low doses being achieved for all examinations. Our modern integrated computer system allows images taken in the x-ray room to be viewed by a consultant in the clinic, and our team of local radiologists provides a detailed report to the referrer.
You will need a referral letter from your GP or other doctor to authorise an X-ray. At Vale Healthcare appointments can be arranged at a time most convenient to you.
There are no medical conditions that would make having an X-Ray unsuitable. However, for women who are or might be pregnant, it is advised that X-Rays are not undertaken other than in emergency situations.
X-ray imaging is available at both the Cardiff Bay Clinic and The Vale Hospital.
