What happens at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic

Your appointment at the Early Pregnancy Assessment clinic will be with a Consultant Gynaecologist, who will be able to talk through any concerns you might have. You will then undergo an assessment and have a transvaginal ultrasound scan, which lasts approximately 10 minutes. In total your appointment should last about 30 minutes.

The results of your scan are available immediately, and your Consultant Gynaecologist will talk you through what the results mean, and whether you require any further treatment or referral. You may also need to have a blood test and/or other hormone assessments (including hCG). We have facilities on site for progression of any treatment, or you may be referred to your local NHS hospital.

Consultant led service

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic at Vale Healthcare is Consultant led. This means that your appointment is with a Consultant Gynaecologist (supported by a chaperone nurse), and this is the consultant that will undertake your assessment, conduct your ultrasound scan, and talk you through the results.
