Consultant Nurse and Senior Lecturer
Alongside his role in Vale Healthcare - Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan's leading private hospital and private clinics - Dr Hugh Chadderton is Consultant Nurse with the Hywel Dda Health Board and Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Science at Swansea University, South Wales; he is also Visiting Faculty to the Department of Sport and exercise Science at Aberystwyth University.
Dr Chadderton trained as a general nurse at North Manchester General Hospital and as a mental health nurse at the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals in London. He holds a Diploma in Nursing from the University of London and a Master’s Degree and Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff. He has been a University of Wales and University of Wisconsin-Madison scholar, and was accepted into Sigma Theta Tau International for his development work in nursing.
Since 2001 Dr Chadderton has worked as Consultant Nurse at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth. He is lead clinician for the day hospital, clinical lead for falls prevention across the Hywel Dda Health Board, and he developed and now runs the Falls Clinic at Bronglais Hospital. As part of that development, he researched the benefits of multi-factorial falls risk assessment and multi-factorial falls risk reduction. His current falls research is with Aberystwyth University and is a biomechanics study into the short and long term gains from strength and balance training.
Hugh has lived in Penarth, South Wales since 1986, and now calls it home.
