Our Treatments

A number of diagnostic tests and treatments can be carried out at the clinic as day case procedures. These include:

  • Upper and lower GI endoscopy
  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Removal of bowel polyps
  • Removal of lumps and bumps
  • Injection of varicose veins
  • Injection and banding of Haemorrhoids

Most of our diagnostic tests are performed using Endoscopy which involves the use of a flexible fibre-optic tube attached to a camera which is then used to examine the relevant part of the gastro-intestinal tract.

Depending on the procedure it is performed with or without sedation in the day case theatre.

The endoscope is an invaluable, minimally invasive device for diagnosing disorders and for performing biopsies - the removal of a small piece of tissue for analysis. These are some examples of diagnostic procedures used in the day case theatre.

Upper GI endoscopy

This is an examination involving the passing of a small, fibreoptic tube (the gastroscope) through the mouth into the stomach, allowing the doctor to look directly at the lining of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and duodenum (the first section of the small intestine). If a sample of tissue needs to be taken for analysis (a biopsy), it will be removed painlessly through the endoscope, using miniature forceps.

Colonoscopy

A long flexible tube (the colonoscope) is inserted into the rectum and gradually advanced through the colon, allowing the physician to examine the lining of the rectum, diagnose colon and rectal problems, perform biopsies and remove noncancerous growths (polyps).

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

A fibre-optic camera examination of the rectum, sigmoid and left colon. Often performed without sedation, a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy is commonly used to look for bleeding or noncancerous growths (polyps) and is one of the main screening tests for colorectal cancer.

Radiology

The clinic consultants are supported by specialist Consultant Radiologists who provide radiology investigations, including Barium studies, and MRI Scanning. Radiology results are usually available within 24hrs of the examination.
