Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist
Dr Sunil Dolwani is a private Consultant Gastroenterologist who runs private Gastroenterology clinics in south Wales from Vale Healthcare's private healthcare facility - the Cardiff Bay Clinic. The Cardiff Bay Clinic has a state of the art day care endoscopy unit where Dr Dolwani provides Gastroenterolgical investigations.
General Gastroenterology
Dr. Dolwani has clinics in Gastroenterology at both the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough in Cardiff, South Wales Patients seen in these clinics include those with abdominal pain, heartburn, indigestion or dyspepsia like symptoms, diarrhoea, anaemia, inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative colitis & Crohn’s) jaundice and other gastroenterological complaints.
Endoscopy
Dr. Dolwani has special interests and expertise in new modalities of image enhanced endoscopy and colonoscopy including Narrow Band Imaging and Contrast enhanced endoscopy. He has trained in Japan at the National Cancer Centre Hospital in Tokyo in removal of complex bowel polyps and early gastrointestinal cancers through the endoscope and colonoscope (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection). He is the lead facilitator for the Welsh Endoscopy Training Network at University Hospital Llandough, South Wales and teaches on numerous advanced Endoscopy & Colonoscopy courses for consultants and Trainees in England & Wales.
Bowel Cancer Screening
Dr. Dolwani is the Clinical Lead Screening Colonoscopist for the Bowel Screening Program Wales in Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust. He is also one of the Assessors for accreditation and assessment of Consultants in the Bowel Screening Program in Wales.
Familial Bowel Cancer & Colonic Polyposis
Dr. Dolwani has clinical and Research interests in families/ individuals with familial forms of bowel cancer and bowel polyps. Currently he co-ordinates and is the Principal Investigator for a large multicenter study looking into individuals with multiple colonic polyps in collaboration with the dept of Genetics.
Research & Training
Current research studies include those on surveillance of cases with familial bowel cancer, new techniques in identification and assessment of complex polyps and early gastrointestinal cancers and genetic basis of bowel polyps and cancer. Training involvement in Bowel Cancer Screening, Gastroenterology Trainees and training in advanced endoscopic techniques.
