New Cardiac Clinic Sets Pulses Racing…

If you’re concerned about your heart, Vale Healthcare can assess you quickly and thoroughly all under one roof during the same appointment.

At the Vale Healthcare Clinic a new service has been developed to facilitate the rapid assessment of patients who are either at risk of, or have established evidence of, cardiac disease.

The service is centred around five Consultant Cardiologists, who are also based at local NHS Hospitals, supported by Cardiac Physiologists as well as the nursing staff and support staff at the Vale Healthcare Clinic.

Cardiovascular disease, particularly in south Wales, remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity. The reduction of cardiovascular risk, both through lifestyle changes and pharmacological therapies, can make a significant difference to all of us as we age, but particularly so for those at highest risk.

Identifying those at highest risk and assessing the likelihood of them suffering a cardiovascular event is an important part of the cardiology service. Equally, the prompt recognition of the symptoms and signs of cardiovascular disease can make a major impact on short term and long term outcomes.

Patients with cardiac disease will have various different symptoms, but using the range of investigative tools available at the clinic (such as echocardiography, exercise testing, heart rhythm monitoring and blood pressure monitoring) the Cardiologists can make a firm, objective assessment of the patient’s symptoms and determine the role, if any, of the various treatment strategies available to deal with
cardiac disease.
