Consultant in Transplant and General Surgery with an interest in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

Mr Elijah Ablorsu is a Consultant Transplant and General Surgeon at Vale Healthcare, South Wales' leading private clinic and private hospital for genral surgery and transplant surgery. Mr Ablorsu has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery (key-hole surgery) and single incision laparoscopic surgery. He is also based at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, south Wales.

Mr Ablorsu graduated from Komenius University in Slovakia, gaining a MD degree in 1999; where he also started his postgraduate surgical training. During his training he developed a special interest in liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery, pancreas and kidney transplantation.

Before moving to Cardiff, Mr Ablorsu completed his specialist training in General and Upper GI Surgery, Elijah held a Fellowship in Liver and Pancreatic Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital in London; a Transplant Fellowship in Manchester; and a Fellowship in Liver and Transplant Surgery in Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery.

Alongside transplantation, Mr Ablorsu has established excellent practice in advanced laparoscopic surgery (key-hole surgery). His specialist interest in the field is laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery for gallbladder and bile duct stones, laparoscopy for complex groin hernias and abdominal wall and laparoscopic removal of kidneys for Living Donor Transplantation. He also performs single incision laparoscopic surgery, which achieves better cosmetic effects and less pain.

Elijah regularly presents his work in national and international forums, and regularly publishes in peer reviewed surgical journals.

Mr Sanjay Chawathe

Consultant Gynaecologist
MBBS, MD(O&G), MRCOG

Mr Sanjay Chawathe is a Consultant Gynaecologist with specialist experience in urogynaecology and laparoscopic surgery. Mr Chawathe delivers private surgery and private treatment at Vale Healthcare - south Wales' leading private hospital and private clinics - for a full range of gynaecological conditions and provides treatments including laparoscopic hysterectomy (keyhole hysterectomy).  

After completing his undergraduate medical training at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, & Seth G. S. Medical School, Mr Chawathe qualified as a doctor in 1989.

He started training in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1989 and was awarded a diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1991. Upon completing his residency program, he passed MD (O & G) and FCPS exams in 1992. He took his MRCOG examination in 1998 and completed a welsh deanery training program to achieve certificate of completion specialist training (CCST).

During his specialist training, he developed skills in laparoscopic surgery and urogynaecology. Subsequently, he was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician with special interest in urogynaecology, at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil in 2004, and more recently joined the team at Vale Healthcare as a private Consultant Gynaecologist serving Cardiff and all South Wales. 

Mr Chawathe is a general gynaecologist with a wide range of experience in gynaecological surgery. His clinical interests include female urinary Incontinence and vaginal prolapse surgery.

He conducts urodynamics assessment, stress urinary incontinence surgery including transvaginal tape (TVT) & trans-obturator tape (TOT) surgery. He also performs vaginal mesh repair surgery for advanced/recurrent vaginal prolapse. He is a trained laparoscopic surgeon and performs laparoscopic hysterectomies for benign gynaecological conditions along with other laparoscopic procedures such as treatment of endometriosis, adhesiolysis, laparoscopic salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tube) and oophorectomy (removal of ovary). 

Mr Chawathe is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, British Medical Association, Medical Protection Society, British Society of Urogynaecology, UK Continence Society, and the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy.

Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon

Mr Dean Harris is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Vale Healthcare. Mr Harris's NHS work is based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, and he is also an honorary lecturer.

Dean offers a full range of colorectal and general surgery procedures including laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery and colonoscopy. His interests are in proctology (fistulae, haemorrhoids), pelvic floor disorders (including internal and external rectal prolapse) and management of incontinence.

Dean qualified from UWCM (Cardiff) in 1997 and has obtained a broad training in general surgery and coloproctology as a specialist registrar in Wales. Much of his colorectal training has been in Singleton Hospital, both as a registrar in 2007 and as an Ethicon Endosurgery Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellow in 2010.

Dean was a colorectal fellow at St Mark’s Hospital in London and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada where he received advanced colorectal training. He has developed special interests in pelvic exenteration for advanced pelvic malignancy, ileoanal pouch formation for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Dean undertook a full time MD in Cardiff studying the biology of peritoneal inflammation and adhesions. He has active research interests in the management of locally advanced rectal cancer through Swansea University.

 


Mr Umesh Khot

Mr Khot is a Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in Colorectal Surgery. Mr Khot is based in Swansea, and lives in Cardiff, and offers private clinics through Vale Healthcare across south Wales. Mr Khot practices all aspects of general surgery and has a special interest in surgery for intestinal disorders, both cancer and non-cancer. He is also an accredited colonoscopist.

Mr Umesh Khot trained in Bombay, India. Qualifying in 1989, he started postgraduate surgical training followed by three years as Lecturer in Surgery, University of Bombay. In the UK, he continued higher surgical training in London and Wales. He was awarded the Intercollegiate Fellowship in 2005. In 2006 he was awarded a Fellowship in Laparoscopic(Key-hole) Colorectal Surgery.

Mr Khot is a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. He is a UK National Trainer/Preceptor for laparoscopic intestinal surgery and represents Wales on the Council of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI).

Mr Khot also runs a national fellowship programme sponsored by Ethicon Endosurgery. He has trained many Consultants and senior surgical trainees in the art of laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He established laparoscopic colorectal services and Enhanced Recovery Programme in Swansea.

He has published many scientific papers and is a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and has a keen interest in clinical research.
 


Mr Ashraf Rasheed

Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon - General Surgery & Upper GI Surgery

Mr Ashraf Rasheed is an Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon, specialising in General and Upper GI Surgery practising at Vale Healthcare, near Cardiff - South Wales' leading private Clinic and Private Hospital.

After graduating from Dublin in 1992, Ashraf was awarded Lyon’s Medal and McDonnell’s prize for proficiency in surgery. He completed his higher surgical training in Wales and was awarded CCST in General and Upper GI Surgery in 2003.

Ashraf undertook international fellowships in advanced laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery.

Appointed Consultant Surgeon to West Dorset Foundation Trust in 2004 before moving to the current position of lead for Laparoscopic Upper GI surgery at the Gwent Healthcare.

Ashraf has a special interests in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and performs Laparoscopic Anti-Reflux (Acid Reflux) Surgery, Laparoscopic Bariatric (Anti-Obesity/Weight Losing) Surgery, Laparoscopic Biliary (Gallstones) and Pancreatic (Pancreatitis) Surgery, Laparoscopic Spleen Surgery, Laparoscopic Ventral, Incisional and Inguinal Hernia Surgery. He is an expert at oesophago-gastric and biliary endoscopy.

Ashraf wrote the Gwent operational policy for UGI cancer management, reviewed the benign upper GI / biliary services and developed management pathways for upper GI diseases.
