Mr Richard Parkin
Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Richard Parkin is an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, practicing throughout Cardiff, Newport, and the whole of south Wales alondside his private cosmetic surgery and face, neck and mouth surgery practice at Vale Healthcare, south Wales' leading private clinics and private hospital in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Richard was born and educated in Yorkshire, obtaining both a medical degree from Southampton University and a dental degree with distinction. He won the prize for oral and maxillofacial surgery before completing full surgical training for the FRCS.
Richard undertook his higher surgical training on the All Wales programme and obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in 2006. He holds a Fellowship in Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from both London and Edinburgh.
His NHS appointment is Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, South Wales, where he is lead clinician for surgery and reconstruction of head and neck / facial deformities following cancer, he also reconstructs faces after trauma and developmental conditions along with provision of a routine oral and maxillofacial service.
Richard's special interests include facial cosmetic surgery and all aspects of surgery of the mouth, face, neck and jaws. He is a member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Association of Facial Plastic Surgeons. He is an honorary clinical tutor for Cardiff Medical / Dental School and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of the Royal College of Surgeons.
He lives in Cardiff with his partner Jayne a GP, and their two young children, Rhys and Jessica who are all Welsh speakers forcing him to keep up! In his spare time he is an avid sports fan particularly rugby and has recently taken up cycling.

Prof. David Thomas
Consultant Oral Surgeon

David Thomas is originally from South Wales, he is currently Professor of Oral Surgery at the School of Dentistry and the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Before joining Vale Healthcare - South Wales' leading private clinics and private Hospital in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan - David Thomas qualified in Cardiff, where he undertook his Masters degree. He was awarded a Wellcome clinical research fellowship to work In Bristol and completed his PhD, before returning to Cardiff to complete his higher specialist training in 1997. Professor Thomas is currently examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and a member of the UK Specialty Advisory Panel for training in Oral Surgery and is Associate Editor of Oral Surgery.
A member of the Association of Dental Implantology, having established the implant training programme in 2001 at the School of Dentistry he runs the postgraduate Masters Programme in Implantology and runs postgraduate courses in oral surgery, grafting and implantology. Research interests are focused on the repair and regeneration of soft tissues following injury and he is author of over 100 publications in this area.
His clinical interests include Oral Surgery (under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia) and implantology (including bone and soft-tissue grafting).
