Prof. David Thomas

David Thomas is originally from South Wales, he is currently Professor of Oral Surgery at the School of Dentistry and the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Before joining Vale Healthcare - South Wales' leading private clinics and private Hospital in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan - David Thomas qualified in Cardiff, where he undertook his Masters degree. He was awarded a Wellcome clinical research fellowship to work In Bristol and completed his PhD, before returning to Cardiff to complete his higher specialist training in 1997. Professor Thomas is currently examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and a member of the UK Specialty Advisory Panel for training in Oral Surgery and is Associate Editor of Oral Surgery.
A member of the Association of Dental Implantology, having established the implant training programme in 2001 at the School of Dentistry he runs the postgraduate Masters Programme in Implantology and runs postgraduate courses in oral surgery, grafting and implantology. Research interests are focused on the repair and regeneration of soft tissues following injury and he is author of over 100 publications in this area.
His clinical interests include Oral Surgery (under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia) and implantology (including bone and soft-tissue grafting).
