Tim Appanna is a private Consultant Urological Surgeon at Vale Healthcare, South Wales' leading private Hospital and private clinics in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Born in Aberdare, South Wales, Tim went to medical school in Cardiff. He qualified in 1993 and trained primarily in South Wales. During his training he took time out to do a formal research degree in cancer genetics and obtained an MD thesis.  Prior to his appointment as a hospital consultant he undertook a 1 year fellowship at St Vincent’s hospital in Melbourne, Australia in order to gain specific training in laparoscopic urology.

Tim is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, and Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. As well as “core” urology and diagnostics his sub specialty interests are laparoscopic urology (keyhole surgery) and endourology. As he is part of the multi-disciplinary oncology faculty at his unit he is experienced with all forms of urological malignancies including bowel cancer. In addition his research role also involved treating patients with functional bladder problems and he is proficient in urodynamics and the treatment of urinary incontinence.

In addition to his clinical work Tim is actively involved with teaching. He is the Approved Educational Supervisor for all the urological trainees at his institution and sits on the South Wales Specialist Training Committee for urology. He has set up evening meetings to educate paramedical staff and is also involved with teaching and examining medical students. He has also been available to give speaker meetings for groups of General Practitioners.

Although Tim played hockey and cricket for the medical school he now has 3 very young children whom he uses as an excuse not to go to the gym.

Gareth Brown is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant and in his private consultant practice at Vale Healthcare - Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan's leading private hospital and private clinics for the treatment of all urological conditions, including haematuria (blood in urine), urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary infection (cystitis) and kidney stones.

He graduated from the University Of Wales College Of Medicine, Cardiff in 1995, undertook basic surgical and urological training in South Wales and in 2007 he was awarded an MD for research into bladder cancer. Following the completion of his urological training he then undertook advanced specialist training at the University College London Hospital, the largest Andrology unit in the UK.

He holds current memberships with the British Association of Urological Surgery (BAUS), the British Society for Sexual Medicine (BSSM), the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Gareth is actively involved in multi-disciplinary oncology and is the surgical lead for penile cancer in South East Wales

General Urology
Gareth is an NHS consultant with both emergency and elective sessions. He carries out diagnostic work including prostate assessment and cystoscopy and manages all core urological conditions including haematuria (blood in urine), urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary infection (cystitis) and kidney stones.

Andrology
Within Urology, Gareth has particular expertise in Andrology and takes referrals from multiple sites within South Wales. This subspeciality includes:

• Male infertility including surgical sperm retrieval PESA, MESA and microsurgical TESE for ICSI.
• Vasectomy
• Genital oncology including surgical treatment of cancer of the penis and testis.
• Sexual dysfunction including medical and surgical treatments for erectile dysfunction (impotence)
• Ejaculatory disorders including premature ejaculation.
• Testicular pain
• Peyronie’s Disease - medical and surgical treatments
• Other surgery of the penis such as circumcision, preputioplasty, frenuloplasty, penile reconstruction for balanitis xerotica obliterans and disorders of the suspensory ligament.

Robert Skyrme, is a Consultant Urological Surgeon. Rob is from Talgarth in Mid Wales, and is a Welsh speaker, who graduated from The University Of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff , South Wales in 1994. His basic surgical training was in South Wales. His urological training was also carried out in South Wales.

Since Rob's appointment as consultant urologist at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend he has established a continence service based in the urology unit, but has outpatient sessions at Neath Port Talbot hospital and community based clinics throughout the ABM trust. He is actively involved in training of junior doctors.

As a private urology consultant surgeon at Vale Healthcare - South Wales' leading private clinics and private Hospital in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan - Rob has joined with three other colleagues to developed a urological partnership – ‘Glamorgan Urology’, based on sub-specialist urological skills, that they will deliver at Vale Healthcare, Cardiff Bay., South Wales.


Mr James Andrew Thomas

Andrew Thomas is a Consultant Urological Sureon from Llandybie, Carmarthenshire, South Wales, and is a Welsh speaker, who graduated from The University Of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff  in 1988.  He performed basic surgical training in the Midlands and South Wales. His urological training was carried out in South Wales and he spent a year of sub-specialist training in Adelaide, South Australia.

He established a urology unit at the Princess Of Wales Hospital, Bridgend in 1998 and is now one of the Senior Urologists in ABM University NHS Trust.  He is nationally known as an expert in day case laser prostate surgery for benign prostate disease and cryotherapy treatment for prostate cancer.

At Bridgend, he runs a training centre that teaches Consultants and Specialist trainees from all over the UK the technique of Green light laser PVP (photoselective vaporisation of the prostate). He was also one of the first Welsh surgeons to perform laparoscopic nephrectomy.

He is a team player, and is the lead clinician for the urological cancer multi-disciplinary team that covers Neath and Bridgend.

Andy together with three other colleagues have now developed a urological partnership – ‘Glamorgan Urology’, based on sub-specialist urological skills, that they will deliver at Vale Healthcare, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff.

Andy's sub-specialities include Laser prostate surgery, Laparoscopic renal surgery, Cryotherapy of prostate cancer, Urinary stone disease, Diagnostic urology. His research interests include Laser prostate surgery and cryotherapy

He olds current memberships with the following professional bodies: HCSA – Hospital and Consultant Specialists Association, British Association of Urological Surgery, BAUS section member for uro-oncology and endourology, and Royal College of Surgeons of England

Andy's current positions include: Honorary Lecturer - Medical School, Cardiff University, Chairman of the Urology Section of the South Wales Cancer Network, Current Treasurer and former Secretary of the Welsh Urological Association.

Former positions include Speciality Representative of the Royal College of Surgeon of England 2006 -2008, and Welsh representative British Association of Urological Surgeons 2006 – 2008

Founder and trustee of The South Wales Charity, GLAZE that raises funding for new treatments for prostate cancer and benign prostate disease.

Andy is a family man with three young children and lives in the Vale of Glamorgan. He has always been a competitive sportsman, having played rugby for Llandybie, Cardiff Medicals and Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd.  He has played squash for the Cowbridge first team for over a decade and is a keen golfer and member of the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club second team.
