Mr Kevin Conway

MBBCh. MD. FRCS (Gen Surg)
Consultant Vascular Surgeon

Kevin Conway is a general surgeon, specialising in vascular and endovascular surgery, which includes the treatment of Varicose Veins, at Vale Healthcare, near Cardiff - South Wales' leading private clinic and hospital for the private treatment of varicose veins.

After graduating from Cardiff University in 1997, he completed his basic and higher surgical training in Wales and was awarded CCT in general and vascular surgery. In 2007 he obtained an MD after a period of research in the Department of Surgery and Wound Healing Research Unit, Cardiff University into the control mechanisms of new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis).

Following completion of his surgical training he was appointed as a vascular surgeon in the Royal Glamorgan hospital and has honorary contracts to perform emergency vascular surgery at hospitals in Cardiff and Vale and Aneurin Bevan local health board areas.

Due to the rapidly changing nature of vascular surgery he tailored his surgical training to encompass minimally invasive endotherapies as well as open approaches to vascular disease. He treats varicose veins with Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (VNUS ClosureFast) and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerothaerpy. As these new techniques require good ultrasound scanning skills he has also completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Vascular Ultrasound. He also performs injection microsclerotherapy for thread veins and manages arterial disease with both open and minimally invasive techniques.

Kevin grew up and went to school in Belfast before moving to Wales to study medicine. He has published a number of original research papers, two surgical text-books and a number of chapters in other surgical textbooks. He is the surgical editor for the British Medical Journal’s On Examination resource and is a co-founder of Doctors Academy a not for profit group which runs courses for both under and post-graduate surgeons, with the profits going to fund scholarships and fellowships for underprivileged students and doctors from developing countries.

Kevin runs regular clinics at the Vale Hospital, near Cardiff, South Wales, where patients can be seen and treated for vascular conditions including rapid access private treatment for Varicose Veins.
