Am I suitable for weight loss surgery?

Considering weight loss surgery is a big decision, and we want to make sure that you have all the information, advice and guidance in order to help you make the right choice in regards to your weight loss treatment.  

The first step in seeking medical advice on weight loss is to speak with you GP. We strongly advise that you seek support from your GP. Your GP will usually provide us with a referral letter, and this is often the start of our on-going communication to ensure that you're receiving the right support throughout your treatment process.  

You do not require a GP referral in order to have weight loss surgery (you may self-refer), however we will always keep your GP in the picture regarding your treatment and care unless you request otherwise.

Weight loss surgery could be the right choice

Vale Healthcare's Weight Loss Surgery Clinic could be the right choice for you, although this can depend on a number of factors:

• You meet the guideline criteria for weight loss surgery, and have a BMI over 35
• You have made significant attempts to lose weight using non-surgical methods
• You understand that weight loss surgery will require you to make substantial lifestyle and diet changes, pre and post surgery
• You are prepared to work with our team of weight loss specialists throughout and after any weight loss surgery treatment

Weight Loss Surgery is not the right choice for everyone

At Vale Healthcare we have specific criteria in relation to which patients are suitable for the weight loss treatments that we provide.

We provide a number of weight loss surgery treatments, but these are not suitable for everyone. Our criteria also considers Body Mass Index and some specific medical and psychological conditions.

All of these details will be discussed with you throughout your time at Vale Healthcare, prior to any wieght loss treatment.
